Find Three: A Simple Gratitude Practice for Frustrating Days
Find Three: A Simple Gratitude Practice for Frustrating Days
We all have those days.
The morning starts off wrong. Traffic is terrible. Someone sends an annoying email. Your plans fall apart. You spill your coffee, miss a deadline, or find yourself replaying a frustrating conversation in your head.
And once you're frustrated, it's easy to let one difficult moment color everything else.
But what if, instead of trying to ignore the frustration, you paused and looked for something that was still going right?
Find Three.
It's a simple gratitude practice built around one small idea:
When a frustrating situation comes up, find three things that are still going well.
That's it.
Why Three?
Three gives you enough time to slow down and intentionally shift your attention.
When we're frustrated, our brains naturally want to focus on what's wrong. Finding three things that are going well doesn't mean pretending the frustrating thing isn't happening. It simply gives you another perspective to consider.
Maybe you're frustrated about something at work, but you're grateful for the people you work with.
Maybe you're having a terrible morning, but your favorite song just came on.
Maybe today isn't going the way you hoped, but you have a warm home, someone who loves you, or a good cup of coffee waiting for you.
The things don't have to be profound.
They just have to be true.
A Gratitude Practice You Can Actually Use
The next time something frustrating happens, try this:
1. Pause.
Before reacting, take a breath.
2. Find three things that are still going well.
They can be big or incredibly small.
3. Name each one.
Actually put them into words.
4. Let yourself notice them.
You don't have to fix the frustrating situation. You don't have to force yourself to feel positive.
Just make room for something good to exist alongside it.
Making Gratitude Physical
This is the idea behind our Find Three Bracelet.
The bracelet features three red beads that serve as a physical reminder of the practice.
When frustration strikes, touch the first red bead and name one thing that's going well.
Then the second.
Then the third.
Three beads. Three things. One moment to reset.
We love the idea of turning gratitude into something tangible—something you can literally carry with you throughout your day.
Because sometimes we don't need another reminder on our phone or another item on our to-do list.
Sometimes we just need something on our wrist that quietly says:
Look for the good.
Gratitude Doesn't Mean Everything Is Good
This is an important distinction.
Practicing gratitude doesn't mean ignoring difficult feelings or pretending that everything is okay when it isn't.
You can be frustrated and grateful.
You can be disappointed and grateful.
You can have a really hard day and still find three things that are going well.
Gratitude isn't about denying the difficult parts of life.
It's about remembering that the difficult parts aren't the only parts.
Try It Today
The next time something doesn't go your way, before you let that moment take over your entire day, stop and ask yourself:
What are three things that are still going well?
Touch each bead.
Name each thing.
And take a moment to notice it.
Because there is almost always something worth noticing.
Find Three.
A simple reminder to pause, shift your perspective, and remember that there is always something to be grateful for.
